How often should you have your house cleaned?

Weekly, biweekly or monthly, and how to tell honestly which one your household needs.

The short answer

For most homes the honest answer is every two weeks. Biweekly is the most common frequency among our customers and the one we recommend most often, because roughly two weeks is how long a reasonably tidy home holds its standard before the kitchen and bathrooms start asking for attention. Weekly makes sense with young children, shedding pets, or several people home all day. Monthly works when you keep on top of daily tidying yourself and want the deeper maintenance handled.

The test that actually works

Forget square footage. Ask how the house feels at day ten. If by day ten the bathrooms are visibly asking and the kitchen floor has a film, you want weekly. If day fourteen still looks fine every single time, you can probably stretch to monthly. If day ten is fine and day fourteen is starting to slide, you are exactly where biweekly is designed to sit.

Forget square footage. Ask how the house feels at day ten.

What pushes a household to weekly

Small children, because of the floor. Dogs and cats that shed, because of everything. Somebody working from home full time, because the kitchen becomes a second office and gets used five times a day rather than twice. Cooking properly most nights. Light coloured carpet. Any two of those together and weekly usually earns itself.

Where monthly genuinely works

Couples without pets. Empty nesters. Households where somebody naturally wipes as they go and the daily tidying is simply never an issue. Monthly visits are weighted more toward the kitchen and bathrooms, because four weeks is long enough for those two rooms to need recovering.

Frequency is not permanent

Households change. A new puppy, a baby, a parent moving in, a job that moves home. Tell us and we change the schedule. We would rather move you around than have you cancel because the plan stopped fitting.

Questions

Quick answers

What is the most common cleaning frequency?

Biweekly. It is what most of our customers are on and what we recommend most often.

Is weekly cleaning excessive?

Not in a busy household with kids or pets. In a quieter home it usually is, and we will tell you that rather than sell it to you.

Can I change frequency later?

Yes, any time. Tell us and we adjust the schedule.

Every new customer gets a free in person visit before we talk price. James does them himself, it takes about half an hour, and there is no obligation and no deposit.
